SUSTAINABILITY > McAlvain Group of Companies, (MGCI) believes sustainable design and construction practices are one of the most direct and important ways for us to give back to the communities in which we live.  We believe that by embracing this philosophy, we lead by example of training our own employees and customers to tread lightly on the earth as well.  This commitment begins at the corporate level; we employ LEED Accredited Professionals to manage LEED certification processes, and are active participants around the green community.   MGCI also believes in balance.  On sustainable projects, we strive to find the balance between sustainability vs. cost, research and development vs. tried-and-true products, material availability vs. construction schedule constraints.  We have done numerous studies for project intending to be sustainable and/or LEED certified including life cycle and first-cost analyses, interdisciplinary cost analyses, and material research. A few examples of our sustainability projects include:

  • The MEP Group Office Building, completed in April of 2009, is currently under review to be certified LEED Silver.
  • McAlvain completed the Region 1 Headquarters for the Idaho State Police in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho that has been documented to perform 27% more efficient mechanically than required by ASHRAE 90.
  • The Idaho Water Center in Boise, is a sustainable building, designed and constructed in accordance with LEED guidelines and delivered under the design/build delivery system.
  • McAlvain Group of Companies Home Office Renovation is an 11,300 sq ft office building which, and as stated above, is on track to be certified LEED Gold.
  • McAlvain completed the Nursing/Health Sciences Building at Lewis-Clark State College in June of 2009 that has been documented to perform 33% more efficient mechanically than required by ASHRAE 90.
