2011 Excellence in Concrete Award
 
Salt Lake City, Utah  (March 22, 2011) - McAlvain Construction (MCI) received a 2011 Excellence in Concrete Award at this year’s American Concrete Institute Intermountain Chapters 24th Annual Awards Ceremony for its concrete work on the Idaho State Capitol Addition and Restoration Project.  McAlvain led the design and construction of the core & shell for the new underground Capitol Wings Addition.  MCI self-performed all structural and architectural concrete work.  MCI also served as a concrete subcontractor under a separate contract to the interior restoration contractor, completing interior and exterior concrete.
 
The American Concrete Institute is an international organization dedicated to the advancement of concrete technology through research and education. The ACI Intermountain Chapter has established the ACI Excellence in Concrete Awards Program to recognize the innovative and aesthetic uses of concrete by owners, architects, engineers, contractors and ready mix producers.

Idaho State Capitol Wings Expansion

Idaho State Capitol Wings Expansion

The Idaho State Capitol Wings Expansion project included the excavation, waterproofing and core and shell construction of two 25,000 sq ft single level below grade buildings including landscaping.  These underground wings are additions to the East and West sides of the existing State Capitol building providing additional hearing rooms, conference areas, offices, kitchen and dining room, and storage space.  Skylights in the main hallways will utilize natural light.
